The Jersey Mike's Subs of Sandy Springs, GA off of Roswell Road in the Kroger Shopping Center

Myself, being a northerner (born in 1980 outside Philadelphia, PA), I can appreciate a taste of the north such as a New York Style pizza or a Philly Cheese Steak. I have fond memories from the first 10 years of my childhood full of snow, hoagies, scrapple, and perogies.

As I’ve lived in Georgia since 10 years of age, when a restaurant that claims to bring a taste that is commonly found at another part of the country to my doorstep, I rightfully take them up on that challenge. The exploration of Jersey Mike’s Subs was no different, at least not until after I purchased my first Chipotle Cheese Steak Sub.

I arrived immediately after work with no plans to try Jersey Mike’s out. My main reason for running this errand was to ship a package at the UPS Store right next door(as seen in the photo). Upon awaiting my package to be processed, I thought about visiting Jersey Mike’s for the first time. I’ve known about the shop for quite some time but never had a chance to try them out. Now was the chance!

I arrived and the gentleman behind the counter said “what-a-ya-have?”(What will you have?). I glanced at the menu for the first time and undoubtedly wanted to try the Chipotle Cheese Steak sub and so I told him. I figured it would take longer than your average deli sandwich as the onions and peppers needed to be fried.

After I placed my order a mother with two kids (about 8 and 10 years of age) came in behind me and he took her order as well while juggling my order. He prepared both our orders and asked me if I wanted any chips or drink. I told him I just wanted the sub and he reached for a large cup and as he was handing it to me, he said “for patiently waiting”. I took it from him and replied with a smile, “thanks!”

This not only happened once but TWICE! A week later a similar but somewhat different situation occurred but he still was very kind and offered a drink because I had to wait.

Myself working in food service in the past understand his practice of preparing two customers’ orders at the same time as it is a much more efficient use of time. I was very very pleased with my first experience there and as a result, I’ve revisited 2 times within the last two weeks.

It’s simple practices like this which really win customers over and they actually want to come back.

OH, and by the way, the sub was absolutely amazing! It truly reminded me of a genuine northern cheese steak. I’d highly recommend the place if you like that sort of thing.
